The E36 takes centre stage.

The E36 was hard to miss at Killarney on 30 May. Daniel Blaser’s white, red and blue number 32 passed with Table Mountain behind it; Arno Michels’ red number 911 and Marius Fourie’s pink number 313 brought two very different looks to the same BMW generation. For BMWCCCT supporters at Power Series 4, there were familiar cars to follow around the circuit.

Blaser, Michels and Fourie all appear in the championship as E36 328i drivers, but they compete in different classes: Blaser in E, Michels in C and Fourie in F. That distinction matters when following the series. Cars that look closely related from the spectator bank have separate class contests as well as places in the overall championship.

Lloyd Brady’s number 41 gave the album an E90 counterpoint to the E36s. His white, grey and blue 330i carried Schildkröte Racing on the door, with Cadiz across the windscreen and MasterDrive on the nose. Johan Koekemoer’s white number 24 was equally easy to recognise, with his surname on the side window. Another frame caught Kobus de Kock’s pale-yellow number 77 and a white BMW on the same stretch of track.

The later provisional standings, dated 22 August, put those familiar cars into perspective. De Kock had accumulated 66 points, Michels 57.4 and Koekemoer 49. Blaser stood on 44.8, Brady on 41 and Fourie on 25. Those totals cover the season up to that date; they do not tell us who finished ahead at this May meeting.

What the May photographs do give us is a good look at the machinery behind those names. There is Blaser against the mountain, Brady close to the kerb, Michels turning through the corner and Fourie’s pink E36 passing the spectator side. If you usually follow BMWCCCT through the points table, this is a chance to put a car to the name.
